As we continue to digest the recent debate, another pressing issue warrants our attention, one that concerns me deeply. After watching a video recap of the debate, it became clear that while Donald Trump and his pathological liar persona are significant problems, the bigger issue lies with the MAGA cult.
Even if Donald Trump weren’t their golden shiny boy, they would find another figure, potentially even worse than Trump. Yes, I can accept that the left side or the Democratic Party isn’t perfect or infallible. However, there is a genuine issue when you see videos of MAGA supporters being presented with their own logic and then vehemently opposing it.
This group is truly built on doublethink, refusing any critical thinking processes. I’m not calling for these people to be rounded up in any way unless they were part of the January 6th insurrection. However, they are a primary example of why education and critical thinking are essential.
Mental gymnastics to remain “right” or “correct” builds no muscle, improves no thought process, and sharpens no wit. Instead, it destroys the ability to accept truth based on facts. We must recognize the importance of fostering critical thinking and education to combat this destructive mindset. Without it, we risk further erosion of rational discourse and the ability to discern fact from fiction.
